When symmetric and curved visual contour meet intentional instructions: Hedonic value and preference

چکیده
Symmetry and contour take part in shaping visual preference. However, less is known about their combined contribution to We examined the hedonic tone preference triggered by interaction of symmetry contour. Symmetric/curved, symmetric/sharp-angled, asymmetric/curved, asymmetric/sharp-angled stimuli were presented an implicit explicit task. The task consisted affective stimulus–response compatibility where participants matched with positive negative valence response cues. recorded liking ratings from same stimuli. used instructed mindset induce focus on or different parts experimental session. found curvature tone. Explicit results showed for curvature. In both tasks, a cumulative interaction, larger overall effect. While symmetric asymmetric contributed symmetry, effect was mainly caused inclination towards curved contours rather than rejection sharp-angled contours. did not find any correlation between measures, suggesting that they may involve cognitive processing.

Hedonic value of intentional action provides reinforcement for voluntary generation but not voluntary inhibition of action
Intentional inhibition refers to stopping oneself from performing an action at the last moment, a vital component of self-control. It has been suggested that intentional inhibition is associated with negative hedonic value, perhaps due to the frustration of cancelling an intended action. Here we investigate hedonic implications of the free choice to act or inhibit. Participants gave aesthetic r...

15 صفحه اولDissociating What and When of Intentional Actions
Recent brain imaging research revealed that internally guided actions involve the frontomedian wall, in particular the preSMA and the rostral cingulate zone (RCZ). However, a systematic decomposition of different components of intentional action is still lacking. We propose a new paradigm to dissociate two components of internally guided behavior: Which action to perform (selection component) a...
متن کاملQuasi - Experiments and Hedonic Property Value Methods ∗
There has recently been a dramatic increase in the number of papers that have combined quasi-experimental methods with hedonic property models. This is largely due to the concern that cross-sectional hedonic methods may be severely biased by omitted variables. While the empirical literature has developed extensively, there has not been a consistent treatment of the theory and methods of combini...
متن کاملHedonic and Transcendent Conceptions of Value
In this paper we introduce a conceptual distinction between a hedonic and transcendent conception of value. We posit three linguistic earmarks by which one can distinguish these conceptions of value. We seek validation for the conceptual distinctions by examining the language contained in reviews of cars and reviews of paintings. In undertaking the empirical examination, we draw on the work of ...
